Beginnings

Sunday

Stories begin with beginnings. Where do I begin? In terms of karma that could be past lives and/or it could be family stories and karma.

Stories can begin when the hint of change and the moments before that precede insight, "inciting incidences" change occur.

For now, I'll begin with the end of August 2015 when I was introduced to TRE (Tremor Release Exercise).  I read a book (though I skipped to the end where a man illustrated simple poses which set the body up to tremor.

I worked the poses and sure enough, strange magic, my body - mostly my legs and my belly begin to tremor.  Tremoring releases stress as well as trauma stored in the body.  It is a natural phenomenon that animals do to discharge stress.  You see little newborns tremor after they're born. It's only through suppression of our instinct and natural body responses that we forget to do it and how to do it.

I started to do TRE for awhile I did it almost every day. I was fascinated that my body would shake on it's own once triggered. It never scared.  And after you've done the tremoring you rest and you feel deeply restful.  I loved that it was not an emotional or mental process - that for me it bypassed digging up old stories.

The effects are subtle. For me I began to feel more comfortable in my skin. I often have the feeling of wanting to run away from things due to overstimulation or intense emotion.  I seemed/seem to handle stress better - my prefrontal cortex doesn't go offline so quickly or dramatically - which is really a big jerk around.  I'm calmer.

I've reduced it to 2-3 times a week because I've a lifetime of trauma - (and re-traumatizing myself) and it is very soothing.

TRE created an opening for me to also try meditation - just brief, 10 minutes each day of quieting the mind and watching the breath - as well as I could.

I read and am re-reading mindsight - an amazing and healing book about the brain and mind. And no matter your age, how the brain can re-wire make changes due to neuroplasticisty.
